First scientists granted permanent residency visas in the UAE
Federal Authority For Identity & Citizenship holds special reception in Abu Dhabi as part of UAE's plan to become an incubator for talents and skills
The first batch of scientists, doctors and researchers have been granted Permanent Golden Residency visas by the Federal Authority For Identity & Citizenship as part of the UAE's plan to become an incubator for talents and skills.
The gold cards were granted during a special reception held in Abu Dhabi, in the presence of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister and Vice President of the UAE and Dubai Ruler, along with the scientists and their families.
The reception was also attended by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, along with senior officials and dignitaries.
Sheikh Mohammed praised their efforts of the scientists in serving the humanity, and serving the country.
“We celebrate the first batch of scientists, researchers and doctors who were granted permanent residence in the UAE. They include 2,500 scientists, researchers, innovators and investors. We welcome them,” Sheikh Mohammed said on Twitter.
In May, the UAE announced its plan to offer long-term residence permits for expats under its Gold Card system.
Hundreds of investors have so far been granted the gold card residency visas but these are the first scientists.
The UAE's new permanent visa is intended to generate foreign investment and attract top engineers, scientists, and star students.
The gold card visa is issued is renewed automatically every 10 years.
