First Emirati astronaut to start final test ahead of ISS blast-off
Hazza Al Mansoori, along with Sultan Al Neyadi, the reserve astronaut, will start their mock mission on Friday in Russia
The first Emirati astronaut Hazza Al Mansoori, along with Sultan Al Neyadi, the reserve astronaut, will start their mock mission on Friday, ahead of the journey to the International Space Station (ISS) on September 25.
The mission is a mandatory two-day final exam for astronauts and cosmonauts at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre in the Star City, near Moscow, before they blast off to the ISS, state news agency WAM reported.
Al Mansoori will be accompanied by his crewmates - Nasa astronaut Jessica Meir and Russian commander Oleg Skripochka - for the trip onboard a Soyuz MS-15 spacecraft that will be launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
The mock mission is a segment of qualification examinations and simulations for the Russian Soyuz and Russian segment of the ISS.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that Al Mansoori will lift off to the ISS at exactly 5.56pm (UAE time) from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on September 25.
The landing will take place on October 3 at 2.48pm (Kazakh time).
Al Mansoori will carry out 16 scientific experiments during the mission, six of which will be conducted onboard the International Space Station.
He will travel for an eight-day space mission to the ISS aboard a Soyuz-MS 15 spacecraft and return to Earth aboard a Soyuz-MS 12.
