Dubai's DEWA hires consultants for reservoirs project
New reservoirs to be built to take Dubai's total water storage capacity to 1,010 million gallons
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) on Tuesday said it has awarded a consultancy project to design and construct two water reservoirs.
One will be in Al Nakhli, with a storage capacity of 120 million gallons of desalinated water while the other will be in Al Lusaily, with a storage capacity of 60 million gallons, to increase Dubai's total storage capacity to 1,010 million gallons.
The construction and operation of both reservoirs is expected to be completed within 32 months.
“This project supports DEWA’s efforts to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the water network, increase water flow to fulfil increasing demand for water in all parts of Dubai, and raise the volume of the Emirate’s water reserves and support sustainable development,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of DEWA.
“The project includes the design of the reservoirs according to the latest standards of sustainability, and supervision of the implementation of the project at the two sites... DEWA’s total storage capacity will increase to 1,010 million gallons, compared to the current capacity of 830 million gallons,” added Al Tayer.
