Dubai roads, airport severely affected by heavy fog
Fog is expected to continue until Saturday
Heavy fog descended upon the large swathes of the UAE on Wednesday night, prompting authorities to urge motorists to take caution due to poor visibility.
Dubai Airport is also affected, with morning flights in and out of DXB disrupted by delays.
In a statement, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said that visibility was expected to be less than 500 metres over some coastal and internal areas of the country.
According to the NCM, partly cloudy weather is expected to continue at least through Saturday, with relative humidity increasing at night and the early mornings over coastal and internal areas.
Earlier this week, dense fog caused a 44 car pile-up on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid road in Abu Dhabi, leaving 22 people injured.
Authorities said speeding and failing to leave sufficient space between vehicles in the fog were the main causes of the accident.
Dubai Airports’ flight tracker showed that dozens of flights in and out of Dubai International Airport were delayed – some by as much as two hours – due to the fog, including flights to North America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
An Emirates spokesperson said passengers should check the website for latest information on their flights from DXB.
“Severe fog in Dubai on 8th February has caused disruption to numerous Emirates flights arriving and departing at Dubai International Airport. Emirates urges customers to check their flight status on for the latest information regarding their flights. Emirates apologises for the inconvenience caused. The safety of our passengers and crew is of utmost importance and will not be compromised.”
