Dubai builds a Covid-19 isolation centre at Rashid Hospital in under a week

A video tweeted out by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) shows how an isolation and intensive-care ward for Covid-19 patients was built ground-up adjacent to Rashid Hospital in the emirate in under a week.

Every room is fitted with a fresh air circulation mechanism and has medical appliances and equipment.

Also, filters and air purifiers are added as an enhanced infection control measure.
The unit also includes offices for doctors and nurses.
On April 18, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, inaugurated a new field hospital at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
The 3,000-bed DWTC Covid-19 facility includes 800 beds set aside for intensive-care patients.
Earlier in April, Humaid Al Qatami, director general of DHA said that the emirate was in the process of constructing two field hospitals to cope with any increase in the number of Covid-19 infections.
He indicated that Dubai already had 4,000-5,000 hospital beds available to coronavirus patients, and that these field hospitals – the first of which is now open at DWTC – would allow the authorities to cope with thousands of more patients who may require hospitalisation.
He added that some quarantine patients were being kept in five-star hotels and said that these hotels could also possibly be converted into hospitals, if need be.
