Swindlers place fake "applications for Poloniex" in Google Store
Researchers on safety have found three roguish applications in Google Play shop of Poloniex cryptocurrencies which are, presumably, connected with the exchange.
Article posted on the news website on information security of ESET "We Live Security" in detail says about how two applications respectively called by "Poloniex" and "Poloniex Exchange" have been placed in service of Android applications and more than 5500 times before removal are downloaded. It is reported that Poloniex have no official application for Android.
In article, except those applications, problems of cyber security of cryptocurrencies as the high cost of some digital assets has drawn attention of potential swindlers are covered. In this case application were demanded from users of Poloniex of introduction of their registration data, thereby transferring to swindlers access to e-mails of the victims and giving them an opportunity to change passwords and to delete any proofs of the proceeding transactions.
ESET writes in article:
"It means that malefactors can carry out transactions from a user name, change their settings or even to block for them access to the account, changing their password".
Researchers could not tell how many people suffered from counterfeit applications. In article it is marked that Poloniex allows users to include two-factor authentication (2FA) for protection of the accounting entries against it like the attack. If at the user 2FA is included, then malefactors will not be able to log in to the account even with the relevant data.
The first application, Poloniex, was in Google Play about three weeks and 5000 times before it was deleted on September 19, 2017 were downloaded. The second was within several days and was downloaded 500 times while it was also not remote.
By preparation of this material in Play Store the third application — "Poloniex — Bitcoin/Digital Asset Exchange" which has 1000 downloads today is still available.
