Event at The Beach will also mark the launch of Expo 2020's online volunteer portal
Thousands of people are expected in Dubai’s Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) on Friday (October 20) to mark the three-year countdown to Expo 2020 Dubai.
The event, which will be hosted by Virgin Radio’s Kris Fade, will run from 4:30pm to 10pm, and will include a ceremony at 8:20pm to celebrate the beginning of the three-year countdown.
The celebration will include various attractions, a fitness challenge, local and international music and cuisine, as well as opportunities for the public to learn about Expo 2020.
Much of the celebration will be focused on the innovations first showcased at previous expos, such as television, the gramophone, and even ice cream cones. The celebrations will also include a six-metre high zip line and an ‘Expo-vation’ on the beach, where the discovery of the jewellery that inspired the Expo logo will be recreated.
Friday will also see the launch of the official volunteer registration portal for the Expo - www.volunteers.ae/expo2020 - which was set up in collaboration with the Ministry of Community Development.
Additionally, the Expo Live team will be on hand to give visitors a preview of an upcoming initiative, the ‘Innovation Challenge Programme’.
Opening on October 20, Expo is projected to attract 25 million visitors. Of these, 70 percent are expected to come from abroad – the largest proportion of international visitors in the 166-year history of World Expos.
More than 200 countries, companies, NGOs and educational institutions are also expected to participate.
