Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) secured more than half of contract awards related to Expo 2020 Dubai during H1 2017.
With 47 construction contracts, worth a total of $3bn (AED11bn), expected to be awarded during the course of this year, more than 15,000 businesses have registered through Expo 2020 Dubai’s online procurement portal.
As of June 2017, SMEs accounted for approximately 70% of registered companies, according to the latest Expo 2020 Dubai report, which was prepared by The Big 5 Dubai.
Expo 2020 deals expected to be awarded in January 2018 include contracts for a delivery management system, a waste management contractor, and temporary utilities installations.
The final portion of packages, also scheduled to be awarded next year, will include contracts for vertical transportation and landscaping.
Situated on a 438ha site in Dubai South, Expo 2020 will open to the public on 20 October, 2020.
Construction on the site is expected to complete by 2019, and 80% of the event’s built assets will be used once the exhibition has concluded.
Expo 2020 will represent a major focus at The Big 5 Dubai 2017, which will take place from 26-29 November at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).
Ahmed Al Khatib, vice president of real estate for Expo 2020 Dubai, has been confirmed as a VIP speaker for The Big 5’s Excellence in Construction Summit.
