Fossil Rock Lodge will open near Mleiha where fossils of marine animals from millions of years ago can be found
Sharjah is planning to open a luxury lodge near Mleiha where fossils of marine animals from millions of years ago can be found.
The Fossil Rock Lodge, which is set to open in the first quarter of 2018, will offer accommodation to intrepid explorers wanting to make the most of the UAE’s natural environment.
It is the latest adventure leisure offering from Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) and is located in the Mleiha Archaeological and Eco-tourism Project.
The lodge will have just five bedrooms with a visitors’ office, restaurant, dining and reception rooms, library, outdoor terrace, fire-pit and public roof terrace.
There will also be a café with a capacity of 42 people and a 430 sq m spa with an open air saltwater pool.
Nearby visitor attractions include Fossil Rock and the Camel Rock as well as the Mleiha Archaeological Centre, which narrates the story of the UAE’s earliest ancestors.
The Fossil Rock Lodge forms part of the first phase of the Mleiha Archaeological and Eco-Tourism project.
The second phase will involve the construction of Mleiha National Park in collaboration with the Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority to serve as a wildlife reserve that will house a range of animals, including oryx, gazelles and mountain deer.
