Emirate is ranked fifth cheapest for luxury holiday getaways in new global list
Sharjah has been named as one of the world's best holiday destinations to enjoy five-star luxury that won't break the bank.
The Northern Emirate ranked fifth on the research compiled skyscanner.ae/hotels, the global travel search engine, which aims to make luxury stays even more attainable for travellers.
In the list of 100 cities offering affordable five-star accommodation, only the Egyptian resorts of Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada, Kuala Lumpur and Sofia were ranked cheaper than Sharjah.
It said Sharjah offered five-star stays at an average of AED497 per night, while the cheapest (Sharm El Sheikh) offered luxury rooms for an average of AED389 per night.
Sharjah is investing heavily in its tourism sector with a AED1.5 billion ($410 million) expansion plan at Sharjah International Airport.
The plan includes the massive expansion of the passenger terminal over the next four years, which will increase the capacity of Sharjah International Airport to 20 million passengers by 2027.
The data also showed that Abu Dhabi (AED814) was ranked the 26th cheapest five-star destination while the holy city of Makkah in Saudi Arabia was ranked 64th (AED1,245)
"From our data it’s clear that deals can be found at five-star hotels in many sought-after destinations, in fact there's five-star room rates in Sharm El Sheikh from just AED122 per night on our site now," said Sam Ayles, senior growth manager at Skyscanner.ae.
