Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street project has cost $129m to complete, says RTA
A major highway extension project in Dubai will open on Wednesday, according to the emirate's transport authority.
Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the opening of the extension of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan St linking Dubai-Al Ain Road and Al Yalayes Road.
Built at a cost of AED474 million ($129 million), the new road has been extended by 25km, a statement said.
It added that the construction of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan St has been undertaken "to expedite the construction of road projects and transport systems to keep pace with the upswing seen by Dubai".
Al Tayer said the extension of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan St includes the construction of a street comprising four lanes in each direction extending 25km.
He added that works are currently underway in developing the last sector of the street from the intersection of Al Yalayes Road up to Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road and the entrance of Expo 2020 area.
In 2016, the RTA completed the initial phase of the Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan St project covering a 4km extension of Hessa St over two lanes in each direction from the entrance of Ramram Project up to the Dubai Sports City.
