Police say British national detained for 'gesturing his finger in an offensive way' to another road user
Dubai Police have confirmed reports that a British national has been arrested for making an offensive gesture while driving in the emirate.
In a Facebook post, Dubai Police said the Brit, named only as JA, was questioned for "gesturing his finger in an offensive way" to an Asian national who filed an official complaint.
The incident allegedly happened on Al Khail Road in Dubai on September 10 when the Asian man was driving in a car with his family.
Dubai Police said authorities the British man left the country soon after the incident but he was detained by police when he returned to the emirate.
The statement said they tried to "solve the problem in peaceful manner" but both parties were unable to resolve the issue.
"On this occasion, Dubai Police would like to reaffirm their fair and equal treatment to all nationalities may they be visitor, residents or even local citizens, and that all cases are dealt with in a professional and transparent manner according to the UAE laws," the statement added.
