UAE's glitzy shopping malls strong pull for US travellers
US travellers have their eye on Dubai, with the city ranking top in a list of 10 dream destinations for American travellers.
A survey of 4,956 Americans over the age of 18 revealed that a 29 per cent would rather Dubai over any country on earth, the research by US travel website Jetcost revealed.
The majority of respondents (48 percent) said the desert city’s world famous were among the chief attractions, findings showed.
If given the opportunity, 25 percent of travellers said they would also like to visit Costa Rica, mainly for its sloth sanctuaries, while 24 per cent dreamed of travelling to Iceland for a glimpse of their Northern Lights.
According to the UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) 15 million visitors to the UAE pumped around $16 billion into the economy in 2016.
The UAE’s vision 2020 hopes to attract 20 million tourists, with the Expo expected to draw around five million visitors alone. Reasonable targets considering the Gulf country’s geographic position within eight hours flying time to approximately six billion people.
