The UK Foreign Office has confirmed the death of a British national on July 4
A British expat who is the editor-at-large for Gulf News has been arrested by police in Dubai on suspicion of killing his wife, according to a UK-based daily.
The journalist has been in custody since Wednesday after his 62-year-old wife was found dead at their home in Jumeirah, The Daily Mail said.
The daily quoted Abdul Hamid Ahmad, the editor-in-chief of Gulf News, confirming the employee had been arrested.
“His wife is dead, and she has been killed, at their home. Francis Matthew, unfortunately, is still in custody with the police,” the newspaper quoted him as saying.
While no official statement from police or prosecutors have been released, The Daily Mail quoted unnamed sources saying Matthew had called police to the couple’s home where officers discovered his wife’s body.
One source said: “He is currently being investigated on suspicion of assault leading to death.”
Matthew and his wife were married in Chippenham, Wiltshire, in 1985.
The UK Foreign Office has confirmed the death of a British national in Dubai on July 4, adding it is providing support to the family.
