Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, on Thursday visited Emirates Flight Catering, one of the world’s biggest flight catering facilities.

There he was briefed about the continuing processes in the company that serves more than 120 airlines, including Emirates.

He also toured the Central Commissary Unit (CCU) and Skybake, which inaugurated last year to meet the local and international demand within flight catering industry.

CCU handles 15 tonnes of vegetables, 9 tonnes of fruit and 30 tonnes of meat daily, in addition to the recently introduced new products lines of ice cream and pasta.

Skybake uses 3,300 tonnes of flour per year to produce 97 variations of product and distributes 450,000 items.

Sheikh Mohammed also saw the automated overhead cart transport system (monorail) which carries over 29,142 meal carts through 2.55 kms of monorail line.

The system also transports the carts and containers to the dishwashing area where over than 3 million cutlery are washed every day.

More than 520 chefs work in the speciality production areas to prepare 1,548 different menus annually.

Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed, president of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority; chairman and chief executive of Emirates Group, and Khalifa Sulaiman, director general of Dubai's Protocol Department.
