‘Forests’ under bridges to beautify Dubai
Dubai: Towering bridges decorated to look like forests are part of a fresh new initiative to beautify Dubai, it was announced on Saturday.
This week, Dubai mega-developer Nakheel inked a deal with Brand Dubai, an arm of the government-run Dubai Media Office.
The first project has transformed the look of the underside of bridge leading to the East Crescent on Palm Jumeirah.
The bridge’s pillars look like tree trunks, topped with dense-looking foliage that covers the bottom of the bridge.
Under the terms of the #DubaiSpeakstoYou initiative, art projects will be implemented across the city with a long-term plan to transform Dubai into an open-air art museum.
These projects aim to highlight various aspects of Dubai’s “rich diversity and pioneering spirit,” the Media Office said in a release.
“We are honoured and proud to be part of this initiative by drawing on the region’s best artistic talent to bring this unique feature to Palm Jumeirah,” said Ali Rashid Lootah, Nakheel’s chairman.
“This new work of art that forms part of this project will provide another attraction for residents and guests at our world-famous, flagship project.”
“Nakheel is a leader in the real estate sector with prestigious projects in Dubai that attract thousands of visitors and tourists every day,” said Maitha Bu Humaid, Brand Dubai’s director.
“By combining our strengths, we have a great opportunity to initiate art projects that enhance the artistic and cultural environment of Dubai.”
