Etihad Group appoints new CEO
Etihad Aviation Group has appointed Tony Douglas as its new group chief executive officer, the company said in a statement on Thursday.
Douglas, who joined from the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence and who previously headed Abu Dhabi Airports Company, replaces Etihad’s former group CEO James Hogan, who stepped down in July this year.
Ray Gammell, who has served as interim group CEO since May 2017, will return to his position as group chief people & performance officer, the statement said.
Douglas served as CEO of the Defence Equipment and Support department for the UK Ministry of Defence, where he was responsible for procuring equipment and services for the British Armed Forces. He also previously held senior positions with airport operator BAA, and was chief operating officer and group chief executive-designate of Laing O’Rourke.
At Abu Dhabi Airports, he was responsible for the Midfield Terminal Project and at BAA he was managing director of the Heathrow Terminal 5 project. He also oversaw the delivery of the $7.1 billion Khalifa Port project as CEO of the Abu Dhabi Ports Company.
Following his appointment, Douglas said in a statement: “Etihad is a force in global aviation that must continue to adapt and evolve on its own and with industry partners. It is an economic and employment engine for the UAE and the region.
“With new infrastructure and attractions like the expanded airport, Louvre Abu Dhabi, and Abu Dhabi Global Market, Etihad has a central role in supporting the UAE’s position as a global hub of transportation, tourism, commerce, and culture.”
Douglas will join the company in January 2018, the statement said.
