Dubai Municipality approved 71% more land for construction in 2017
Total of 10 million square metres of land for construction projects was approved
Dubai Municipality last year approved 10 million square metres of land for construction projects across a range of categories including residential, offices, tourist and open areas – a 71 percent increase on 2016.
Dawoud Al Hajiri, assistant director general of Dubai Municipality’s Engineering and Planning sector, said the approvals met the standards to ensure sustainable urban development in the emirate.
“This is in line with the requirements of service providers to ensure the provision of infrastructure services within the international quality standards to make society happy and to achieve a happy and sustainable city,” he said.
Al Hajiri said that the projects are aimed at providing better services, increased public and recreational facilities and improving the walkability of neighbourhoods in these areas.
Najib Mohammed Saleh, director of the Planning Department at Dubai Municipality, added that the approvals process for major urban projects has been reduced.
“The Planning Department was able to complete the approval of 500 applications for urban projects it received during 2017, with an average implementation time of no more than eight days, or 16 percent less than in 2016. The Department intends to continue improving and developing services to customers and partners in order to achieve the Municipality’s vision of building a happy and sustainable city,” he said.
