Building near Dubai Mall catches fire
Dubai: A fire broke out at a building near the Burj Khalifa at around 6.30am, according to eyewitnesses.
To secure the premises, authorities closed off a section of Mohammad Bin Rashid Boulevard from the cinema parking towards the upper bridge. Dubai Police also closed the intersection that leads to Burj Khalifa, and diverted traffic towards Fashion Avenue.
The fire reportedly broke out a tower under construction. By 6.45am, eyewitnesses saw helicopters and teams of fire trucks on site, as they cordoned off the areas and rushed to extinguish the flames.
The black smoke could be seen from miles away, with Dubai residents posting up videos, photos and sending out Tweets of the latest fire incident in Dubai’s downtown area.
In a statement, the Dubai Media Office confirmed that the building under construction belonged to property developer Emaar, and said that a team of Civil Defence is working to put out the blaze in Dubai’s Downtown.“Ambulance teams have been dispatched to the emergency site and no casualties have been reported yet,” said Dubai Media Office.
